DAY 1 ARRIVE YANGON
Arrive at Yangon International Airport and proceed to hotel for check in. After a brief rest, before dinner, proceed to admire the famous Chaukhtetgyi Pagoda which is well known for its massive statue of the reclining Buddha image; visitors usually recognize this Image as ‘Sweet-Eyed Buddha Image’ because of the eyes. Not only the nails are in red but also the lips are vermilion. Moreover, you can also study the previous life of Buddha at the soles of the feet of the Image. That soles consist of 108 segments in red and gold colors. Overnight at Yangon hotel (D)
DAY 2 YANGON
After breakfast, start the day at Yangon city’s downtown area where you will get the landscape of the 2000 year-old Sule Pagoda which blends in well with the faded charm of colonial architecture as well as the historic independent monument park. Move on to explore the India quarter. Start with a visit to the colourful Shri Kali Temple (Hinduism) which was built during the British Colonial area. The temple is renowned for its colourful sculptures, especially the roof which has interesting images of many Hindu gods. Passing through one of the bustling wholesale market in Yangon and visit the Synagogue (Judaism) and learn about the Jewish community (inside visit of temple is subject to the availability of curator). Lunch at a local restaurant, then proceed to Keemyindaing station and board the Yangon circular train to see the diversity of city and rural life around Yangon. The ride ends at Yangon Central Railway station and from there we head to Kandawgyi nature park and General Aung San park. After dinner, overnight at Yangon Hotel. (B,L,D)
DAY 3 YANGON-MANDALAY
Morning, after breakfast, check out of hotel and proceed to airport for flight to Mandalay
Mandalay is the second-largest city and the last royal capital of Myanmar (Burma); located on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River Proceed to visit Mahamuni Pagoda, built by King Bodawpaya in 1784, located southwest of Mandalay and then stroll around the local artisan’s street of stone-carving and wood-carving workshop, one of Myanmar arts and crafts that mainly originated in Mandalay. Later after lunch, proceed to admire the magnificent complex of Mandalay Royal Palace with impressive crowning wooden pavilion. Next, head to Shwe Nan Daw Kyaung or Golden Palace Monastery, constructed entirely of teak and decorated with intricately curved wood and Kuthotaw Pagoda (known as “world’s largest book” and is surrounded by an insane amount of small white pagoda consisting of 729 marble slabs engraved with Buddhist scriptures). Then enjoy a panoramic view of the city and spectacular sunset views from the top of Mandalay Hill. Overnight at hotel in Mandalay. (B,L,D)
DAY 4 MANDALAY-MINGUN-AMARAPURA-MANDALAY
After Breakfast, cast off from Mandalay Jetty for a half day tour to Mingun. Upon arrival, we will visit the enormous Pahtodawgyi pagoda first – hand. This building could have been the biggest stupa in the world- unfinished due to the death of King Bodawpaya before completion. Our trip continues to the beautiful Hsinbyume Paya (White Temple). After that, we pay a visit to Mingun Bell – the second largest bell in the world that is still in a great condition. Before reboarding to return to Mandalay, we will have a chance to explore the basket making workshop in Mingun and interact with the locals. Arrived back in Mandalay and enjoy lunch. Later transfer to visit Jade Market where gem stone traders selling, trading, and examining jade from raw to finished goods. Finally, drive to visit the fantastic U Bein Bridge (a famous 1.6 km long wooden teak bridge built across Taungthaman Lake) to cherish the magical twilight and enjoy one of the best sunset in Myanmar. DAY 5 MANDALAY-BAGAN
After breakfast, drive to Bagan. Situated on a plain along the Irrawaddy River, this ancient city is dotted with thousands of ancient stupas and temples mainly built between the 11thand 13th centuries, making it one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Asia. Upon arrival, check in to hotel from there follow your guide on a horse cart to get a brief orientation to Bagan- its historical significance, topography, agriculture etc. Your evening temple visits include the Dhammayangyi, Bagan’s largest temple. Watch Bagan temple ruins from the sunset viewing spots. Dinner will be served at local restaurant with Myanmar traditional puppet show. Overnight at Bagan hotel. (B,L,D)
DAY 6 BAGAN
(Optional Balloon flight over Bagan in the morning)
Return to hotel for breakfast, proceed to colorful Nyaung U market to capture an interesting portrait of Bagan. Move on to the Ananta temple then Shwezigon Pagoda and Anauk monastery where we’ll photograph the temple and monks in residence. Later visit some local workshops including where the delicate lacquer ware is made. Then we’ll drive through Bagan’s countryside to the rustic village of Minnanthu, one of Bagan’s less visited regions. Here, you can step back in time to enjoy Burmese rural landscape and photograph charming village scenes such as ox-carts against the backdrop of the spectacular Tayok Pye and other ancient temples. DAY 7 BAGAN-HEHO-PINDAYA-NYAUNG SHWE-INLE LAKE
After Breakfast at hotel, transfer to Nyaung U airport for flight to Heho. Upon arrival proceed to travel through a picturesque highland landscape to a quiet town of Pindaya and visit the impressive “Shwe Oo Min Cave”, the winding natural cave lined with more than 8,000 Buddha images of all sizes and materials. Enjoy the cold and peaceful atmosphere there. Then visit Plan Bee’s visitor centre to learn about the story of a bee-keeping project which empowers and improves the livelihoods, nutrition and food security for thousands of vulnerable people in the region. Also have the chance to explore impressive range of bee-related goods. From here, we continue our journey to Nyaung Shwe in time for a quick bottle of wine at Red Mountain Vineyard, before dinner and check in at hotel in Inle Lake for overnight. (B,L,D)
DAY 8 INLE LAKE
After breakfast at hotel, proceed to explore the important sights of Inle Lake by boat. Make your way to one of the holiest sites in Shan state “Phaung Daw Oo pagoda”, past floating farms and leg rowing Intha people (fishermen) along the way. Continue on to visit a lotus silk weaving, boat making workshop as well as the awe-inspiring teak of the Nga Phe Chaung Monastery built over 200 years ago. Return back to the hotel in Inle Lake for overnight. (B,L,D)
DAY 9 INLE LAKE-HEHO-YANGON
After Breakfast at hotel, transfer to Heho airport for the flight to Yangon. Upon arrival transfer to hotel for check in. Then move on to explore Chinatown at Kheng Hock Keong temple (Chinese/Taoist), the largest and oldest Chinese temple in Yangon; then stroll along the orderly streets of Chinatown, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Finally, travel to explore the Shwe Dagon Pagoda (Myanmar’s most iconic religious site) enjoy the evening and get an insider’s perspective on the magnificent landmark . DAY 10 YANGON DEPARTURE
After breakfast, visit the sprawling mass of Scott Market for some last minute shopping. This is the best place for Myanmar traditional foods, clothes, souvenir, paintings, handicrafts and treasure collectors. Free leisure time until time to bid this mystic country farewell. Transfer to Yangon international airport to complete this unforgettable journey. (B)
